Benefits of Curcumin; Turmeric’s Super Power

I grew up eating turmeric in our food cooked in our family kitchen every day, my South Asian Grandma would often force us to drink warm turmeric milk and convince us it was healthy. We as children growing up in the West thought she was crazy and were on the route of being conditioned that modern day medicine was what was healthy for us.

To me it was just another flavourful spice that gave our food the distinctive vibrant yellow colour, completely oblivious to the fact that since 1900’s scientists have published over 11,000 studies documenting turmeric’s wide-ranging health benefits

Turmeric, Curcumin and C3 Complex®

Though my grandmother was completely right about the powerful remedies’ turmeric has – it would have not come from the turmeric spice sitting in our kitchen. You see the real secret to turmeric is in the compound Curcumin.

Curcumin is the powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compound that has proven to benefit almost every system in your body – your skin, metabolism, heart, and blood vessels, and even your brain!

For us to get the full benefits of this compound we would need to eat A LOT, A LOT of the turmeric and therefore it is important you know that your supplement uses Curcumin rather than just Turmeric.

After that it is important to invest in the best Curcumin availableCurcumin C3 Complex® is the most established, clinically researched curcumin available in the market.

The Benefits of Curcumin

Anti-Inflammation

We often hear the word Inflammation and that it is usually the root of many aches and pains. When our body is damaged in any way whether it is jury, illness, exposure to environmental toxins or toxic people, or damage caused by stress, our body’s first response is inflammation.

Inflammation helps your body fight these foreign invaders and has a role in repairing damage. Without inflammation, pathogens like bacteria could easily take over your body and kill you.

Short-term inflammation is beneficial; however, the danger is when it becomes chronic and violently attacks your body’s own tissues.

Scientists have researched that chronic, low-level inflammation plays a major part in almost every chronic, Western disease. This includes heart disease, cancer, metabolic syndrome, Alzheimer’s, and various degenerative conditions.

Anything that can help fight chronic inflammation and preventing and even treating these diseases should be included in our daily lives.

Curcumin is strongly anti-inflammatory. In fact, it’s so powerful that it matches the effectiveness of some anti-inflammatory drugs, without the side effects.

Antioxidant

Curcumin has powerful antioxidant effects. It fights Oxidative the natural process which is strongly linked to aging and age-related diseases. Curcumin neutralizes environmental, chemical, and psychological toxins also known as free radicals and helps the body produce its own antioxidants.

Antioxidants are heroes within our body that they protect it from free radical, antioxidants contribute to glowing skin, boosts in brain function, hair growth and much more. That is why Curcumin is often known for its anti-aging benefits.

Curcumin delivers a one-two punch against free radicals. It fights them directly, then stimulates your body’s own antioxidant defences.

Improves Brain Function

The older generation of my south Asian family regularly consumed curcumin in curries throughout their lifetime are much sharper minds than the younger generation and they are not alone. Studies have proved that there is better intellectual performance and a lower rate of Alzheimer’s disease than people in the Western world.

There is yet to be a solution for Alzheimer’s yet therefore, preventing it from occurring in the first place is of utmost importance. Studies have shown that Curcumin could improve your general brain health and memory.  It is known that inflammation and oxidative damage play a role in Alzheimer’s disease, and curcumin has beneficial effects on both.

Have a look at the study below.

Depression

There is no denying the increase of depression is rising with anti depression tablets being regularly prescribed.   Yet there are natural remedies to help depression such as exercise, diet and even Curcumin has also shown promise in treating depression.

A study found that curcumin was as effective as a well-known antidepressant in treating major depression without the side effects from traditionally prescribed drugs.

Arthritis

Arthritis is a painful disease and cause pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints. It can have a big impact on our daily lives and effect all types of people.

I know first-hand the pain Arthritis causes as my father had it in his later life.

According to the Arthritis Foundation, Curcumin can help treat Arthritis. The Arthritis Foundation recommends choosing curcumin extract, so take this in mind when choosing a supplement.

AA Healthcare said: “Curcumin modifies the inflammation process and there is some evidence that it may help alleviate arthritis symptoms.”

Cancer

As inflammation is linked to tumour growth, anti-inflammatory compounds such as curcumin may play a role in treating and preventing a variety of cancer types. It has the best effects on breast cancer, bowel cancer, stomach cancer and skin cancer cells.

Research suggests that curcumin may help slow the spread of tumor cells and may even prevent tumors from forming in the first place. It may do this in several ways, including disrupting the formation of cancerous cells at various stages in the cell cycle, interfering with cell signalling pathways, and even causing those cancerous cells to die.
